			The mens finals for Surf Expo's Surf Challenge 2, saw Rob Machado facing off against Shane Beschen in Typhoon Lagoon. Kelly Slater, who won the event last year, had just hours before left for the North Shore as it looked like the surf had come up for The Quiksilver Eddie Aikau big wave event (which, as it turned out, didn't happen). In this shot Rob sprays it off the lip.

			Rob drives hard off the bottom, eyeing the next section which is looking pretty juicy for a wave pool.

			Besides ripping up every section on every wave he took off on, Rob looked like he was genuinely having a good time. Just another night in the pool - during which he happened to pick up $20,000 for winning the event.

			Towards the inside here, Rob is still working the wave. Whoever said it's over once the wave closes out?

			Shane Beschen, knowing that Rob would be tough to beat, was pulling out all the stops. Some of these he landed - some of them he didn't. Unfortunately for him, one of his best airs came on a final wave after the heat had ended.

			There doesn't look like too much left of the wave at this point, but that doesn't bother Shane. He's drivin' the bottom turn, making his own speed.

			Shane smackin' another one off the top. In case you were wondering how the waves are generated, the large wall you see in the background hides a series of large water tanks. Once they are filled up, they empty out forming the wave at the base of the wall. Sort of like flushing a large toilet - only a whole lot more fun.

			Shane lining up for his next launch. If it wasn't for the crowd in the background you could almost imagine this wave at your favorite spot. It's certainly not as good as mother nature's best, but Typhoon Lagoon easily beats her worst days.
