The Surfers Guide to Costa Rica
| The Surfers Guide To Costa Rica is a
guide book written by Mike Parise and is a valuable asset to anyone heading to
Costa for their first or second or third time. It is both well written and up
to date, this being the 4th edition updated and published in June 2003. In a
nut shell, the book is roughly 10% about what you should bring and pack and
need. About 50% of the rest of the book covers breaks, where they are, how they
break and some helpfull hints like what it says about Playa Langosta near
Tamarindo: "A left and right at the rivermouth, and a longer left on the reef
outside. When it gets big it breaks way outside and can get scarey. Langosta
can be sketchy: it's often a juicy stormy wave which breaks over lava reefs"
(this is just part of the Playa Langosta section). Along with the descriptions
of the breaks, the other 40% or so tells about your choices of places to stay
near the breaks that it has just talked about. Descriptions of the lodgings
include the cheapest and most basic, as well as places you'll feel comfortable
bringing the wife and kids (like I did). Now, don't expect glossey pages or
photographs or sightseeing suggestion or even road maps; you can find them at
your local book store. What you can expect is a valuable tool that you can use
to maximize your wave count and fun while on surf safari in Costa Rica. 97
